My Review:
You know, I keep expecting for this series to get old. This is the 13th book in it, but they don't...not at all. Fool's Gold keeps getting bigger and I fall a little more in love with it in every book.

This book had two wonderful main characters...Taryn and Angel.

Angel is a former special forces dude that is part owner of the bodyguard school in Fool's Gold. He's scarred, big, muscular, and serious, but truly has a heart of gold. He lost his wife and 14 yo son to a car accident six years ago and has the mental scars that go with that kind of horrific loss. But he's still a giving guy. In this book, he ends up in charge of a group of 7 yr old little girls in a Fool's Gold version of the girl scouts...and I LOVED reading those scenes where he's interacting with them. They terrify him, but he's so good with them in his gruff way.

Then there's Taryn. She's my fashion heroine. This is a girl that likes her spiked heels and power suits because she likes (and needs) the burst of confidence that comes with them. Her shoes define her and they say that this girl likes her sexy heels. She works with three ex-pro NFL football players in a PR company. I love how direct she is. Working with the guys has transformed her view of all guys because she has to deal with them every day and their physical regime and drama. She's tough, she's direct, she's honest, but she has such an incredible heart...one that she's really not comfortable with. She's used to life in LA where she doesn't get involved. That isn't a choice she has in this small town. They suck her in...bigtime.

The two get involved, but it's not a relationship in the pure sense of the word. They go into it...not just for sex...it is more than that, but they know that this isn't going to result in a love match. Neither one of them wants that or feels that they even have the ability to fall in love any longer.

I loved the two of them together. They are upfront and honest about what they want from each other. Their relationship is incredibly hot and fun. Taryn helps Angel with his sprout troop and he helps her learn how to be a little less girly.

There were so many moments that just made me smile in this book...
*When Angel learned how to french braid.
*The many discussions (by everyone) about Taryn's shoes.
*The 3 nfl players and how they protect Taryn at the same time use her as a somewhat mother figure in the company. I loved Taryn and Jack's relationship and the history there that resulted in such an amazing friendship.
*Then there's little Chloe and her final interactions with Angel...so sweet and heartbreaking and heartwarming. So many little vignettes that made this into just one incredible book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

When We Met Fool Gold Book 15 Susan Mallery 9780373778652 Books Reviews

Taryn Crawford and Angel Whittaker's story is just that. Angel decides he wants Taryn, not for keeps, but for a little while. Taryn decides that he'll do. They get together in some hairy situations and it's so funny how they help each other out. Angel has volunteered to be a Grove Keeper. He thinks they are boys. His wife and son died in a car accident when he was deployed and he blamed himself cause he couldn't keep them safe. As it happens, his Grove are girls, 7 and 8 years old. Taryn is roped into being his assistant. She's gladly on board. There is a lot of hilarity there. And, some painful remembering. Taryn has learned to trust no one. Her father made sure of that. She's put herself through school and lived hand to mouth. She met Jack while working for his football team. She was wrapping up sandwiches from a meeting so she could take them home. She lived in her car. Jack "rescues" her. Long story short, they are now partners in Score, along with Sam and Kenny. Angel is a trainer at the CDS or "bodyguard school" There story stole my heart and will do the same for you. Taryn is also helping out one of the girl's mother. She's a widow and she need to get a job. But doesn't have the money to get a really good suit or things for going on interviews. Taryn organizes a clothing exchange where the money the women bring in (what they can afford) will be going to a local women's shelter. Everyone chips in and it will become a semi-annual affair. In the end, Taryn does fall in love with Angel and tells him so. He leaves cause she changed the rules. Everyone is upset they aren't together anymore. Angel finally realizes he does love Taryn, he hasn't seen her in two weeks, but at the parade he see Taryn's "boys" and knows she's with them. He goes to her and asks her forgiveness. All's well that ends well in Fool's Gold. By the way, Taryn has decided that the town needs a new slogan. The Land of Happy Endings seems to have a "double" meaning. "The boys" pointed it out to Taryn and she went to Mayor Marsha about it. "The boys", came up with another meaning but Taryn said don't even think about it. So the search is on. We'll probably find out what it is in a future book. Susan, I know this is a fictional town but I sure would love to live there. Thank you, thank you for being such an imaginative writer. I've already pre-ordered the next books. I can't wait.
As stated in this is Another Fools Gold Hit. Angel kind of surprised me since up until now I don't think we've seen his softer side. He has ghosts that are haunting him and making it almost impossible to get into a loving relationship, maybe a close relationship but don't add love into it. Taryn has her own trust issues so feels a relationship that's fun but not going to lead to love is safe and what she wants. So that's what they agree to have; a fun, mutually relationship but both know it's not going to lead to anything permanent or loving. As in most cases that is almost impossible to actually have as they find out.
Like all Fool's Gold books there is a great mixture of friendships, romance and comedy
Eight little girls help with the comedy. I'm going to leave it at that as I really want you to read it to find out how, as I said there is a softer side to Angel. If you are a Fool's Gold fan you have to read it, if you aren't yet I'm betting you'll be hooked after you read this one.
