I used to own this book in the 90's and I'm glad to see that its still in print today.
The second collection of women's science fiction gives us insight into what has and hasn't changed. Here are some talents the common science fiction fan has heard along with a couple I didn't recongnize. What I found most interesting is that women still tend to focus on women as the main characters even after the reported "equality of the sexes". Reflection of innate views or sign of some progress left to make?
If the title and/or the cover image puts you off, you might be right in this regard, but if you think it is a feminist absolutism or a cheesy collection of SF you are totally wrong! As a collection of SF short stories (regardless of any kind of sexism or which gender wrote these stories) it is amazing. It is pity that would not let you have a look inside the book to see for yourself some of these amazing stories, still you can go to your local library and page through it! I did so by sheer coincidence and it was so beyond my aesthetic expectations, to such an extent that I did not hesitate to order the book. In fact, as soon as I read the two first stories (Cssandra by C.J. Cherryh and The Thaw by Tanith Lee) I fell for the collection. It is a real joy. I wished it had a edition! The book is a MUST ... One of the best SF collections I ever read!
